Beverage Equipment Service Technician (BEST) in partnership with the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA)
The BEST program has been an outstanding example of how the El Camino CACT and private industry can work together to solve and problem. The BEST program was founded on the need of the coffee beverage equipment industry to better train field technicians on equipment repair. El Camino and the SCCA partnered to develop, promote, and deliver a certification program that delivers training that is relevant, convenient, and practical for the trainee.
The program started with classroom training. Now training is provided completely on-line. Trainees that successfully complete the programs are awarded a certification that enables them to demonstrate they possess a body of knowledge that increases their market value to their industry and their employer.
Expanding on past successes, a new program is in development that will train retail store managers on basic equipment maintenance and troubleshooting. This new training will help determine when a simple repair can be made in the store by store personnel, or when a technician must be called-in to make the repair. Specialty coffee retailers throughout the U.S. recognize the BEST certification.
