El Camino CACT provides Blueprint Reading for United Bakery Equipment (UBE)

November 2006

United Bakery Equipment is a recent addition to the list of clients of the El Camino Business Training Center CACT.  UBE had a critical need for customized training on blueprint reading.  Rather than train workers on the standard 40 hour training course, UBE needed training that would address specific needs.  A customized program was developed and training was provided in English and Spanish.  In addition, the course was customized to address the varying degrees of experience of the people in the training.

Training focused on addressing gaps in fundamentals drawing interpretation, then moved on to expanding skills that were in-line with the company's internal drawings and specifications.  Mike Bastashe, Vice President of the Rancho Dominguez facility was pleased with the results of the training.  Rework costs were reduced and productivity improved.

The flow of product through manufacturing was improved because production control people were able to better identify basic manufacturing and sequencing operations during processing.  Furthermore, English and Spanish speaking personnel were now talking a common language in discussing component parts, manufacturing processing, and the flow of product.  Training was provided through an ETP grant.
