Community College Internship Opportunities
NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory
The SIRI program is organized to give students real-life work experiences as a component of their academic program, ones that can help them make career choices and, if they decide to go into some kind of technical work, help them chart future steps in their education.
The Ames Community College Education and Development Program is a career-building internship opportunity specifically designed for San Francisco Bay Area community college students.
National Institute of Health
The purpose of this program is to increase the number of community college students who participate in the NIH Summer Internship Program (SIP). The long-term goal is to increase the number of community college students who transfer to four-year colleges and universities and consider careers in the biomedical sciences.
U.S. Department of Energy
The Community College Internship (CCI) program seeks to encourage community college students to enter technical careers relevant to the DOE mission by providing technical training experiences at the DOE laboratories. Selected students participate as interns appointed at one of 15 participating DOE laboratories.
Additional Internship Opportunities
California Academy of Sciences
Internships at the Academy allow high school and college/university students to gain hands-on experience on the public floor, in the labs and collections archive, and out in the community. These programs are valuable stepping stones toward careers in the natural sciences.
Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI)
Students will work with scientists at the SETI Institute and at the nearby NASA Ames Research Center on projects spanning the field of astrobiology from microbiology to planetary geology to observational astronomy.
Office of Space Commercialization (Department of Commerce)
The Office of Space Commercialization at the U.S. Department of Commerce is currently seeking qualified candidates to fulfill a student internship in the area of space commerce policy. The internship is full time and unpaid. Academic credit may be arranged.
